Future of PoGo VA Alerts

It’s been a rough ride the past 5 days. We have been trying to stabilize our scans so that feeds become more consistent and trustworthy.

Firstly, we would like to thank each and every one of you who have supported us so far. Our success depends on whether you, the hunters, catch the Pokemon we alert.

Here is an rundown of things that have happened over the past week:

  • Our back-end has been completely re-structured to isolate the different regions we cover (RVA, NoVA, Roanoke Valley and Hampton Roads).
  • We have added the Oceanfront area of Virginia Beach in response to Lapras spawning back into the wild. Once this stabilize even further, we will include City Point of Hopewell, VA.
  • We’ve had to prioritize the areas covered based on the number of requests we’ve  been getting.  At the moment, Chesterfield, Mechanicsville and Gloucester Point are on hold until our scans become more stable and more donations come in.

In addition to the three things mentioned above, as we grow, the costs to maintain these feeds grow. Our biggest cost is the service we use to counter the security measures Niantic has placed in the form of captchas.  Since the 0.47.1 version of the game was released, Niantic has increased the number of captcha for every worker we use to scan different areas. Because of the increased rate, the cost to solve these captchas automatically is increasing.

We will turn our scans and alerts off nightly from 1am to 8am to minimize the costs incurred.  This measure can only go so far since we are going to need the help of the community to keep us going through donations.

We ask that if you find what we do helpful and makes the game fun again to give a donation to help let us run longer.  Also, spread the word of how we bring the Pokemon to you.

Thank you again for your continued patience and support. We hope to be around for a long time with your help.
